创建. 促进. 分析. 广告 is at the heart of today’s popular culture. The 广告 major (or minor) 在 School of Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University is an interdisciplinary 广告 program equipping students to be adaptable in today’s fast-changing media environment.

You will learn to apply strong theoretical and media analytical skills and human 心理学 approaches to solve client problems creatively by mastering professional skills for commercial and nonprofit organizations.

The 广告 major at BGSU prepares students for a career in 广告, 促销活动, 市场营销 and communication disciplines. How students approach the major depends on their strengths and interests. 

学生 who want to determine the creative aspects such as what campaigns look like, sound like or say should consider the creative/production concentration. Those interested in human 心理学, 观众, researching markets and the best channel to reach those markets, and how campaigns perform might find the management/research concentration is best for them.

A broad understanding of communication theory and deep practical experience through industry connections are common to both concentrations.

Our interdisciplinary degree includes coursework in 市场营销, 心理学, 媒体制作, 平面设计, communication and 广告.

学生 who major in 广告 can choose between two concentrations: Creative/production and management/research. The creative/production concentration prepares students for careers in copywriting, print and digital 广告 or commercial production, content creation for websites and social media. The management and research specialization examines how 广告 meets communication and 市场营销 goals for organizations: researching markets and audience preference and 心理学, including branding and social media campaigns. You will be able to analyze the success of a campaign and plan future campaigns.

Both courses provide a strong foundation of theory and practice in 广告; incorporate broad-based knowledge across 广告, communication and 媒体制作; and provide 市场营销 and 平面设计 courses to help students understand marketers’ needs in creating advertisements.

学生 may also decide to minor in 广告. The minor is beneficial to students interested in broadcasting, 网络媒体, 市场营销, 促销活动 and other media-related industries and cultures.

The Capstone Campaign Course is conducted with real clients. Two internship requirements provide practical, real-world experiences that can translate into job opportunities.

广告 major students are expected to achieve the following learning outcomes during their time on the Ohio campus of Bowling Green State University:

  • Expla在 different functions, regulations and roles of 广告 in business 市场营销, the media industry and society;
  • Utilize consumer behavior and persuasion theories with audience research to select target audience and develop and evaluate 广告 campaigns' effectiveness with appropriate data analytics and metrics;
  • Write 广告 copy, understand 平面设计 principles and develop ethical 广告 campaigns and strategies across multiple media platforms, including social media for both commercial and nonprofit organizations;
  • 应用 knowledge of different 市场营销 communication media’s strengths and limitations and integrate them in 广告 campaigns and media 广告 sales.

学生 practice their production skills using state-of-the-art technologies 在 迈克尔 & 莎拉·库林中心. The center features video and audio production suites. The video production suite includes access to robotic cameras, virtual sets and “live reporting” spaces. An advanced projection system enables students to simultaneously watch live action being recorded and see the work being done on the control boards.

The student-staffed group publishes a stable of titles, from sports-focused publications to multicultural outlets across multiple channels.
